Michigan Pharmacy Foundation Grant Information

Introduction
The Michigan Pharmacy Foundation (MPF), a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation, was established in 1992 with the mission of advancing pharmacy, pharmacy education and research, and to promote pharmacy practice to the highest level of patient care. Over the years, MPF has awarded more than $150,000 in grant funding that has supported its goal of advancing the profession of pharmacy. MPF accepts applications for general grant funding, but also has restricted funds for projects involving diabetes care.

How to Apply for a Grant
MPF accepts grant applications from individual pharmacy professionals, including students and residents, pharmacy organizations, colleges of pharmacy and pharmacy businesses whose desire is to obtain funding for a project that promotes the mission of MPF. It is also important that these individuals or organizations conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, national origin or any other characteristic protected by law.

Application Process
Applications may be submitted at any time, but must be submitted no later than January 1 and July 1 to be considered by the MPF Board of Trustees at their first meetings scheduled following the deadline dates. MPF staff is available to discuss ideas or meet with prospective applicants upon request.

Download the PDF version of the Grant Application. For those individuals who do not have Internet access, a hard copy can be obtained by calling (517) 484-1466. Individuals submitting a hard copy application must submit three copies.

Applications will be reviewed by the MPF staff for completeness and then submitted to the MPF Board of Trustees for funding consideration. Grant requests may be fully or partially funded or denied. A site visit or interview may be scheduled before a final decision is made. In some cases, applicants may be requested to provide additional information. When additional information is requested, the applicant will be granted 30 days to respond to the request for additional information.

Grant awards will be announced in August and February. Grantees will be required to submit an interim and final report. In addition, grantees may be requested to attend a post-grant meeting to present program outcomes.

Grant Deadlines
There will be two grant cycles each year: January 1 and July 1.

Out-of-Cycle Grants
The Board of Trustees reserves the right to award grants at any time, based on the mission and strategic interests of the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation and the evolving needs of the pharmacy profession. MPF may also consider requests outside of the traditional competitive process if they meet the following criteria:

  • The emergency is caused by forces of nature or events outside of the control of the organization (this does not include most financial emergencies).
  • The timing of the request is of an urgent nature and, therefore, precludes consideration in the regular grant cycles.

Multi-Year Grants
Most grants are for a term of one year. However, under certain circumstances, MPF will consider multi-year grant funding, especially if the grant fulfills a key strategic issue for the profession of pharmacy. It is expected that multi-year grants will be made on a limited basis, and the following general policies will apply:

  • Multi-year grants will usually be for 2-3 years.
  • Grants will usually be in decreasing size in order to promote development of other sources of funding.
  • Second or third year funding will be based on annual review and successful attainment of program outcomes.
