MedGuides Part of FDA-Required Product Labeling The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) now requires distribution of over 30 FDA-approved Medication Guides (MedGuides) with approximately 600 products available by prescription only. MedGuides are FDA-approved patient information for selected prescription drugs that pose a serious and significant public health concern. MedGuides must be distributed to patients with each new or refilled prescription by a healthcare provider or pharmacist and are considered part of FDA-regulated product labeling. An in-depth review of MedGuides was published in the September/October 2006 issue of Michigan Pharmacist, including the MedGuide purpose, MedGuide contents, where to get a MedGuide, which medications require a MedGuide and what to do if a doctor requests that a MedGuide not be dispensed. Request your free class-wide MedGuides on the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) website. Each pad contains 50 MedGuides and you may order up to four pads. |
