Michigan
Pharmacists Association
Vision Statement
Vision
of the Practice of Pharmacy in the State of Michigan
Michigan pharmacists
have preeminent responsibility for the provision of patient-focused care
to patients. This may, or may not, include provision of drug products.
Accepting responsibility for patient medication-related outcomes is the
standard of care.
To accomplish this
vision, Michigan pharmacists must:
- Conduct comprehensive,
patient-centered practices which promote positive drug therapy outcomes
by identifying, resolving and preventing drug related problems.
- Empower trained
technical staff to assume direct distributed, clerical, and technical
responsibilities. Integrate technological advances to improve patient
outcomes.
- Cooperate with
other members of the healthcare team to achieve the common goal of improved
patient outcomes.
- Encourage innovative
practitioners to be involved in advancing pharmacy curriculum toward
a patient-oriented approach.
- Emphasize the importance
of continuing education to effectively care for patients and meet customers'
needs.
- Educate the public
on the role of the pharmacist in health care.
- Encourage patient
care models to become mentors for both pharmacy students and pharmacists.
- Be compensated
for their critical role in enabling safe and effective health care.
Adopted by the
Michigan Pharmacists Association Task Force on Pharmaceutical Care, January
6, 1993.
