Annual Legislative Events

Legislative Day
Held each spring, Legislative Day allows pharmacy professionals to work with legislators to address policies and formulate an achievable and effective method for implementing a proactive approach to health care. In the complex world of health care, the exchange of information between legislators and practitioners is critical. Legislative Day is designed to break the barriers of communication and develop open dialogue between pharmacists and lawmakers and well as provide important updates from the Department of Community Health, the Bureau of Health Professions and Board of Pharmacy. Continuing education is usually offered.

The 2010 Legislative Day was held March 24 at Karoub Associates in downtown Lansing.

Pharmacy Day at the Capitol

Held every fall, Pharmacy Day at the Capitol is a key opportunity to educate legislators on the valuable role pharmacy professionals play in health care. Volunteers have one-on-one time during wellness demonstrations with Michigan's lawmakers to discuss important pharmacy issues and provide expertise in the following areas:

  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Immunizations
  • Healthy lifestyle practices

New this year, MPA will be conducting a pharmaceutical waste disposal program where we will quantify and demonstrate the waste expense associated with mail order pharmacy.

The 2010 Pharmacy Day at the Capitol will be held Sept. 14 on the south Capitol lawn. Visit the event page to volunteer your time or supplies to this important event.

Voting and Elections
In order for Pharmacy PAC to be effective in advocating for the profession, MPA members need to be involved at the most basic level of government.  If you are not registered to vote, please consider doing so.  Review a voter registration application, courtesy of the Secretary of State’s office.

Make sure to mark your calendars for Aug. 3 and Nov. 2, 2010, as Michigan election days.
