Big Rapids pharmacist Karen Lewis Moore will receive the coveted Bowl of Hygeia Award during the 2004 Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) Annual Convention & Exposition Feb. 27-29 at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Mich.

The Bowl of Hygeia Award, presented in cooperation with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, is given to a pharmacist who has made outstanding professional contributions and has participated in community or governmental activities that reflect well on the pharmacy profession.
Moore recently retired from Ferris State University and is a member of the MPA Ethics & Practice Commission. Moore served as a Delegate to the MPA House of Delegates and was on the Michigan Pharmacy Political Action Council Board of Directors. She is a graduate of Ferris State University, where she received her B.S. in Pharmacy. She received her M.S. in Hospital Pharmacy from Wayne State University.
Moore has also served on the Michigan Board of Pharmacy and the Board's Disciplinary Subcommittee, and was appointed by the governor to serve on the Michigan Controlled Substance Advisory Commission. In addition, she served on the MPA Education Committee and served as an advisor to the Lambda Kappa Sigma Professional Fraternity and the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Students of Pharmacy.

An MPA member for nearly 30 years, Moore is also a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
