LOWELL RESIDENT RECEIVES AWARD
Robert
P. Coffey of Lowell received the Greatest Individual Contribution Award in the
area of public awareness from the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists
(MSHP) at their Annual Meeting Nov. 8 in Lansing, Mich.
This
award is given annually to a pharmacy professional who has contributed to public
health awareness. Coffey received the honor for his instrumental efforts on
the Changing Perceptions brochure program. Changing Perceptions is a promotional
brochure showcasing the clinical activities of pharmacists in Michigan designed
to help change the public perception of pharmacists from pill counters to hands-on
patient caretakers.
Coffey
has been the Clinical Coordinator of Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids since 1991.
He is the Immediate Past President of MSHP. He previously served on the Board
of Directors and held the position of co-chair on the Education Affairs Committee.
His work has been on both an organizational level and within his health system.
Specific contributions include implementing pharmaceutical teaching programs
in Michigan communities and patient satisfaction work throughout his career.
Coffey
received his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and his master of science
in pharmacy administration degrees from Wayne State University College of Pharmacy
& Allied Health Professions. He then received his two-year post B.S. Doctor
of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.
MSHP
is a practice section that consists of over 500 of the Michigan Pharmacists
Association's 3,600 members. Since its founding in 1883, the Michigan Pharmacists
Association has been a leader in the professional and scientific advancement
of pharmacy and in safeguarding the well-being of the individual patient in
Michigan.
