GREBE RECEIVES AWARD
Heidi Grebe
of Traverse City was awarded the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists
(MSHP) Professional Practice Award at the MSHP Annual Meeting Nov. 8 in Lansing,
Mich. The award consists of a plaque, a $300 stipend and a one-year paid membership
in MSHP.
With this
award, MSHP recognizes and honors a deserving pharmacist for his or her involvement
and participation in an innovative pharmacy project that contributes to professional
practice.
Grebe was
given the award for her work with the development and running of a pharmacy
anticoagulation clinic at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. This clinic
has been in existence for approximately three years. The clinic currently has
about 150 patients and with the recent addition of a pharmacy technician, expects
to grow to about 350 patients within the next year. In addition to seeing patients
in her clinic, Grebe has counseled hundreds of patients over the phone about
anticoagulation issues.
Grebe's
caring attitude, endless patience, skill as a pharmacy practioner and willingness
to take a chance on an innovative pharmacy program have enabled her to touch
the lives of a significant number of northern Michigan patients. She has contributed
greatly to the health awareness of those patients and their caregivers. In doing
so, she has not only made their lives better, but has shown patients and other
healthcare professionals the value of pharmacy and the value of a clinical pharmacy
practioner.
MSHP is
a practice section that consists of more than 500 of MPA's 3,600 members. Since
its founding in 1883, MPA has been a leader in the professional and scientific
advancement of pharmacy and in safeguarding the well-being of the individual
patient in Michigan.
