FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 14, 2003
James M.
Lile and Kevin G. Przybylski, both of Midland, received the 2003 Innovative
Pharmacy Practice Award from the Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) during
the association's Annual Convention & Exposition held Feb. 21-23 at the
Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Mich.
To be deserving of this award, which is sponsored by Elan Biopharmaceuticals,
a pharmacist must demonstrate an innovative pharmacy practice program that results
in improved patient care.
Przybylski and his colleague, Lile, of the MidMichigan Regional Medical Center,
were approached in 1995 to open an outpatient anticoagulation clinic in their
facility. Przybylski was awarded the opportunity for intensive training at the
Anticoagulation Clinic at the Buffalo, VA Hospital. The pharmacists worked to
develop policies, forms, and patient flow documentation required to begin the
clinic. The clinic opened in March 1996, and has received recognition for its
expertise and professionalism.
Lile has expanded the practice with the Deep Venous Thrombosis Outpatient Clinic.
The clinic now employs six pharmacists to cover the full-time hours, and services
over 800 patients.
Przybylski is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and is currently the
Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator of the Critical Care Department at MidMichigan
Regional Medical Center.
Lile is a graduate of Purdue University, and is currently the Clinical Pharmacy
Services Supervisor at MidMichigan Regional Medical Center.
The MPA, serving 3,500 pharmacy professionals, strives to be a leader in professional
and scientific advancement by following its mission of encouraging and supporting
its members as the professionals responsible for the delivery of patient-oriented
pharmaceutical care.
