SAGINAW RESIDENT RECEIVES AWARD
Lisa Kapcia
of Saginaw received the Greatest Individual Contribution Award in the area of
public awareness from the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP)
at their Annual Meeting Nov. 8 in Lansing, Mich.
This award,
consisting of a plaque and a complimentary one-year membership, is given annually
to a pharmacy professional who has contributed to public health awareness. Kapcia
received the honor for her efforts during Poison Prevention Week, March 17-23,
2002. Kapcia designed, implemented and presented a program about poison prevention
to third grade elementary school students at Handley Elementary in Saginaw.
The program included explaining the importance of poison prevention, telling
poison horror stories, giving students coloring books, handouts, word searches
and other goodies regarding poison prevention and playing "Toxic Trivia."
Kapcia received
the award not as a pharmacy professional, but as a pharmacy student - a great,
rare and well-deserved honor. Kapcia is a working on her bachelor of science
in degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy. She
has made it clear, through her Poison Prevention Week program, early in her
studies and pre-professional career, that she will play an instrumental role
in patient care as a pharmacist in the future.
MSHP is
a practice section that consists of over 500 of the Michigan Pharmacists Association's
3,600 members. Since its founding in 1883, the Michigan Pharmacists Association
has been a leader in the professional and scientific advancement of pharmacy
and in safeguarding the well-being of the individual patient in Michigan.
