MADISON HEIGHTS PHARMACIST RECEIVES AWARD


Kerry L. Tedesco of Madison Heights, Mich., will receive the 2004 Michigan Pharmacists Association's (MPA) Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award at the association's Annual Convention & Exposition, held Feb. 27-29 at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Mich.

To be eligible for this award, presented in cooperation with Pharmacists Mutual, a Michigan pharmacist must be licensed to practice for ten years or fewer, be an MPA member and participate in national pharmacy associations, professional programs and/or community service.

Tedesco, a 2002 Doctor of Pharmacy and 2000 B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate of Wayne State University (WSU), is currently an adjunct instructor and adjunct preceptor for the WSU Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and is a pharmacist at Meijer Pharmacy in Royal Oak. She is completing an American College of Clinical Pharmacy Accredited Fellowship in Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy at the Anti-Infective Research Laboratory of WSU's Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Because of her early dedication to the importance of leadership, involvement and commitment to the profession, Tedesco is an exemplary candidate for this award. She joined MPA in 1999 as a student member, and has served on the Public Affairs Committee and the 2001 House of Delegates Task Force, and is currently a member of the Emergency Preparedness Task Force. Tedesco also served as an Executive Board member, legislative liaison, secretary and vice-president of the Wayne County Pharmacists Association (WCPA). She is currently serving as the president of WCPA.

In addition to this prestigious honor, Tedesco received the George McCracken Infectious Diseases Fellowship Travel Award in 2003, the Eli Lilly Achievement Award in 2002, the APhA-ASP Mortar and Pestle Professionalism Award in 2002, and was the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists' Pharmacy Student of the Year for WSU in 2001.

The MPA, serving over 3,500 pharmacy professionals, strives to be a leader in professional and scientific advancement by following its mission of encouraging and supporting its members as the professionals responsible for the delivery of patient-oriented pharmaceutical care.
