OWOSSO MAN NAMED PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR


Andrew V. Young will receive the 2004 Pharmacist of the Year Award at the Michigan Pharmacists Association's (MPA) Annual Convention & Exposition Feb. 27-29 in Dearborn, Mich. This award is Michigan's highest honor in the pharmacy profession.

The MPA Pharmacist of the Year Award is given to a pharmacist who demonstrates professional excellence and exemplary service to the profession in advancing public health at either the state or local level and displays all the traits and characteristics of someone with a true commitment to advancing the pharmaceutical profession and public health.

Young, a 28-year member of MPA, has served on MPA's Executive Board and the Michigan Society of Community Pharmacists Board of Directors. Young has been a member of the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation's Board of Trustees since 2000. He was a delegate to the Michigan House of Delegates and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) House of Delegates. Young served his local pharmacy association, the former Genesee County Pharmacists Association, as an Executive Board member, chairman and secretary.

A 1978 graduate of Ferris State University, Young was named the Genesee County Pharmacists Association's Pharmacist of the Year in 1987. He received the Phi Delta Chi Alpha Xi Distinguished Alumnus award, and was inducted into the MPA Hall of Honor in 1997. Young was recognized for his contributions to pharmacy students with the Linwood F. Tice Friend of the Academy of Students of Pharmacy Award at the 2003 APhA Annual Convention, and his career path has culminated in this fostering of future pharmacists.
Young owned and operated a community pharmacy in Durand for 11 years and is now Pharmacy Development and District Manager for Rite Aid Corporation.
