Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) is THE state professional
society serving Michigan's pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
in all settings of practice.
Our goal is to meet member needs, encourage personal and professional
growth and provide information about events and issues important
to Michigan pharmacy professionals.
The mission of MPA is to encourage and support its members as professionals
responsible for the delivery of patient-focused care. MPA's 2008-2010
strategic plan outlines the
association's goals to ensure the objectives of its existence and
the needs of its members are met.
To fulfill its mission, MPA provides its members with practice
section and local association connections, as well as services from
its diverse family of companies and councils. It is led by the
Executive Board and committees
and governed by the House
of Delegates.
Vision of MPA
Michigan Pharmacists Association will be the premier state organization serving and representing all practicing pharmacy professionals. It will:
- Work collaboratively with academia and regulatory agencies to advance and improve patient care;
- Be recognized as a national model for innovations and establishing professional standards;
- Influence and have the support of state and federal legislators and all policy-makers; and
- Be the primary pharmacy resource for members, other health care professionals, and the general public.
Strategic Plan
Michigan Pharmacists Association has a reputation for being
one of the most innovative state professional pharmacy organizations.
Thoughtful strategic planning, dedicated members and strong leadership
commitment are key reasons the association remains a viable force
within the State of Michigan and to our profession. The MPA Executive
Board has identified key result areas/long-range strategic issues
and goals for 2008-2010. They are as follows:
Strategic Issue #1: Membership
- MPA will increase the number of new, paying members each year.
- MPA will retain 90 percent of its current paying members each year.
- MPA will represent the needs/interests of all pharmacy professionals
Strategic Issue #2: Reimbursement Issues (Cognitive
& Product)
- Pharmacists will be reimbursed for providing professional services
to improve patient outcomes.
- Pharmacists will be adequately reimbursed for the cost of the product,
the cost of dispensing it, and the associated costs, on behalf of
the vendors (PBMs).
Strategic Issue #3: Legislative
- MPA will be an influential force in legislative and regulatory matters.
- All pharmacy professionals will be in compliance with state and
federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- All technicians have the knowledge, skills and abilities (are competent)
to practice in the state of Michigan.
Strategic Issue #4: Patient Safety
- Pharmacy professionals will use medication error information to
prevent errors and ensure patient safety in the future.
- Laws, rules, and regulations will support a "just" (nonpunitive)
culture for patient safety.
- Pharmacy professionals have the tools to practice in a manner that
maximizes patient safety.
Strategic Issue #5: Education/Advance the Profession
- Pharmacy professionals, other health care providers, and the public
view MPA as the premier source of pharmacy continuing education
and training in Michigan.
- Pharmacy professionals are vital members of the health care team
and valued for their unique knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Pharmacists will improve quality of services and operating efficiencies.
Strategic Issue #6: MPA Infrastructure/Operational
Resources
- MPA will have adequate space and facilities to provide high quality
member services.
- MPA will have sufficient operational (fiscal and human) resources
to serve MPA members and be the premier source of pharmacy continuing
education, training, and information.
- MPA will have a sound fiscal and technological infrastructure to
support staff and provide high quality services to members.
