Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) is THE state professional society serving Michigan's pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in all settings of practice.

Our goal is to meet member needs, encourage personal and professional growth and provide information about events and issues important to Michigan pharmacy professionals.

The mission of MPA is to encourage and support its members as professionals responsible for the delivery of patient-focused care. MPA's 2008-2010 strategic plan outlines the association's goals to ensure the objectives of its existence and the needs of its members are met.

Other Groups

MPA Ethics & Practice Commission

The Ethics and Practice Commission was formed by MPA to help patients resolve professional and ethical complaints against pharmacists. The primary purpose of the Ethics and Practice Commission is to ensure an understanding of and enforce MPA's Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics helps guide pharmacists in their relationships with patients, healthcare professionals and society.

If a patient experiences a situation in which they believe a pharmacist has behaved unethically or has not met the standards in the Code of Ethics, they should complete a statement of complaint. The Ethics and Practice Commission will work with the involved parties to review and evaluate the complaint, provide for proper hearings and determine a final outcome. As the Commission processes the complaint according to established policies and procedures, the personal and professional rights of all individuals are recognized and respected.

MPA's Ethics and Practice Commission should be distinguished from the Michigan Board of Pharmacy, which handles public complaints of a legal nature, where the health and safety of the public may have been jeopardized.

For more information on the Commission, please contact chairman Dale Knab or staff liaison Larry Wagenknecht.

Michigan Joint Commission on Pharmacy Practice

This commission is made up of representatives from MPA and its three practice sections, deans of Michigan's three colleges of pharmacy, the Michigan Board of Pharmacy and the Michigan Department of Community Health.

For more information, contact chairman Laura Shaw or staff liaison Larry Wagenknecht.

Michigan Colleges of Pharmacy Experiential Programs

This collaborative group brings together representatives from MPA and Michigan's three colleges of pharmacy to discuss and advance experiential student opportunities.
