The LIFE Foundation created an industry-wide public service announcement this year featuring Buddy “The Cake Boss” Valastro, whose dream as a child was to work alongside his father in the family bakery and expand the business. That dream was blown off course when he was 17 and his father passed away after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Buddy had to drop out of high school to run his family’s business, and what made the situation even more challenging is the fact that his father didn’t have life insurance.
