We have an excellent Director of Pharmacy opportunity with Comprehensive Pharmacy Services at Sparrow Carson Hospital in Carson City, Mich.  This is a surgical hospital licensed for 61 beds with an ADC of 15 patients. Services include a busy Emergency Room, a 4 bed ICU, 2 Labor & Delivery Rooms, an Outpatient Chemo Infusion Center, and 340b program. This position includes 5-10% staffing duties, with some on call, and supervises 3 full time Pharmacists and 3 full time Pharmacy Technicians.

Assistant Professor of Pharmacology - Michigan State University

Pharmacology Teaching Position

DESCRIPTION: The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at Michigan State University (MSU) (http://phmtox.msu.edu/) seeks to fill a continuing appointment, non-tenure system Assistant Professor faculty position in Pharmacology in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) at its southeast Michigan sites. The College is based on the East Lansing campus, and also operates sites at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and the Macomb University Center (MUC). While this position will be based in southeast Michigan, the faculty member will join a basic science teaching team that works across all three sites to deliver the medical school curriculum. The team develops and presents lectures and laboratory sessions, creates learning and assessment instruments (including hard copy and online), grades student performance, holds office hours and help sessions, addresses student queries via e-mail, online chat rooms, course-specific websites, and manages all aspects of course administration.

DUTIES: In the spirit of interprofessional collaboration, the faculty member will help to support student learning across basic and clinical biomedical science domains. In such a role, the instructor will become acquainted with our overall preclinical curriculum and more fully involved in, and dedicated to, student learning. This position will support the curriculum at both southeast Michigan sites (Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, MI and Macomb University Center in Clinton Township, MI.)

QUALIFICATIONS: A PharmD or Pharmacology PhD degree plus three (3) years of prior clinical experience.
  • Desired qualifications include: Additional requirements include strong interest in teaching and excellent communication skills. Familiarity with a variety of instructional technologies is desirable but not required.

Qualifications

Requirements:
  • A Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm D.) from an accredited institution
  • A current and unrestricted license to practice as a Pharmacist in the State of Michigan
  • 2-4 years of experience at a Director Level position within a clinical or retail pharmacy setting
  • A minimum of 5 years in a clinical pharmacy setting
  • Knowledge of proper drug and medication storage to ensure preservation and security.
  • Knowledge of potential side effects of certain drugs or medications to properly advice and counsel patients.
  • Knowledge of appropriate resource and reference material and their application
  • Ability to communicate and motivate patients regarding disease state, desired outcomes, proper administration, use, actions, precautions and storage of their medications.
Strongly Preferred:
  • Experience creating annual budgets
  • Experience in developing policies and procedures, and ensuring internal controls are in place
  • Training and experience in a cultural diverse environment preferably with the Native American population

About the department/position

Summary Description

Directs the personnel, operational and financial activities of the pharmacy services function for assigned operating unit. Identifies the need for policy development and/or revision, defines policies in collaboration with higher level management, input, goals and objectives. Oversees or directs the development, implementation and/or revision of function procedures/protocols in accordance with system-wide goals and objectives. Approves procedures/protocols and/or seeks other departmental approvals as appropriate. Develops, monitors and revises functional processes in accordance with system-wide goals and objectives. Provides input into the development and revision of organizational structure for function. Approves personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc. Ensures the timely completion of performance appraisals. Develops current to intermediate goals and measures for a major function. Measures and assesses performance. As requested, assists in long range goal development. Assists in development of and monitors budget for a major function. Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, JCAHO requirements and DMC policies. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree or Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Business Administration or comparable graduate degree. Postgraduate residency training and/or additional coursework in business administration preferred.
2. Three to five years experience in pharmacy administration including two to three years supervisory/leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare facility.
3. Registered Pharmacist and Controlled Substance licensures in the State of Michigan obtained within 3 months
of entry into job.
