Mission Statement
The Mission
of the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation is to advance pharmacy, pharmacy
education and research, and to promote pharmacy practice to the highest
level of patient care … consistent with our "Commitment to Quality"
The Michigan Pharmacy Foundation was established as an initiative of
the Michigan Pharmacists Association in 1992. Directing the fund-raising
activities and programs of the Foundation is a Board of Trustees whose
members are leaders in Michigan pharmacy.
The Foundation was
established for the primary purpose of advancing the practice of pharmacy
through education and practice innovation and research, focused on pharmaceutical
care … for the improvement and promotion of public health and public
education.
MPF Goals include:
- Pharmaceutical
care.
This concept will be analyzed through academic review of the following
target areas specified by the Board of Trustees: Demonstration
projects focusing on community and hospital pharmacy practice, including
coordination of care services.
- Professional
and Public Relations
Special projects focused on advancing the professional
image of pharmacists to the general public.
- Commissioned
Studies
Collaborative studies
with colleges of pharmacy to advance the professional and economic
aspects of pharmacy practice.
- Pharmacists’
Self-Study Program
Directed self-study program aimed at pharmacists who temporarily lease
active practice for a period of time. Special certificate programs
for pharmacists, including self-study.

Giving
Foundation Gifting will provide Michigan pharmacy with an arena
for bridging the gap between theory and innovative practice data gathering.
Our Michigan pharmacists’ "Commitment to Quality" through
their "Gifts of Caring" will illuminate the way for future
generations of pharmacists in their never-ending quest for knowledge,
direction and purpose.
One
hundred percent of all contributions (gifting) to the Foundation is
used for these identified goals and objectives. Gifting provides the
opportunity to advance pharmacy in Michigan in many ways, which are
beyond the scope of an association such as the Michigan Pharmacists
Association.
A contemporary illustration
of the time-heralded mortar & pestle is prominently incorporated
in the stationery masthead of the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation, as well
as its categories of gifting, representing the bridge between the mission
of the Foundation and the mission of pharmacists providing essential
pharmacy services to their patients with a commitment to quality.
Since the appearance
of pharmacy as a profession, independent from medicine/physicians in
Europe in the late Middle Ages, pharmacists have been depicted using
the mortar and pestle. Among both the profession and the public at large,
the mortar & pestle continues to graphically represent the art of
pharmacy, the pharmacist’s unique knowledge of medications and their
uses, and the commitment to quality care by pharmacists subscribing
to professional practice standards. The mortar & pestle graphically
illustrates the personal attention, service and patient care that is
the standard of pharmacy excellence.
Similarly, the Foundation
adopted the mortar & pestle to reflect its commitment to advance
gifting by pharmacists who share these goals, and in turn dedicate these
collective resources exclusively to special programs which specifically
advance quality care standards through practice innovation in collaboration
with colleges of pharmacy, and through public education programs.
Your commitment
to advance pharmacy in Michigan is demonstrated by your gifting to the
Foundation … much like the mortar and pestle has been pharmacy’s historical
symbol of commitment recognized by the general public.
The
following Gifting & Caring schedule or categories have been established
to recognize pharmacists who contribute for the advancement of Michigan
