At the end of this activity, participants should be able to explain the differences between nociceptive and neuropathic pain, acute and chronic pain, identify disease states that cause chronic pain, identify over-the-counter medications used for pain and the risks associated, recognize side effects and indications for use of the medications discussed and explain the differences between addiction, psuedoaddiction, tolerance and physical dependence.
