The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) wants to remind pharmacists that as of Oct. 1, 2016, the department will be changing the claims process to continue to deny prescriptions for fee-for-service (FFS) pharmacy programs when the prescriber writing is not enrolled or registered with the service. This requirement is part of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act under section 6401. The state has directed that no overrides be allowed, and that a provider should contact MDHHS to enroll at 800-292-2550. Pharmacies can also resubmit a claim with corrected or valid NPA, but if issues arise, feel free to get in touch with the help desk at 877-624-5204.
