Members are encouraged to register for Michigan pharmacy’s premiere event of the year, the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition, by Feb. 16 to save on registration rates. Pre-registration closes at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 16. Those registering after that date and time will have to register onsite and pay the onsite registration rate. The event will be held Feb. 27-March 1, 2015, at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

Join us for 22 hours of live continuing education (CE) on the latest hot topics in pharmacy, including adult immunizations, transitions of care, pharmacogenetics, pharmaceutical waste collection and disposal, and treatments for chronic hepatitis C. In addition to CE programming, the Convention offers something for everyone, including social and networking events for MPA’s various practice sections and affiliated chapters as well as special sessions and events for student pharmacists. MSHP also has several activities and programming specific to health-system pharmacists planned. Student members can enjoy the MSHP Student Pharmacists Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 28 from Noon-1:30 p.m. and a MSHP Delegate Caucus Breakfast will be held on Sunday, March 1 from 7:30-9 a.m. (invitation only). Programming of interest to Society members will focus on topics such as the following:

  • Diabetes: Transitions of Care – Ambulatory Care (Diagnosis and Transition) and Inpatient (Critical Care, Glucose Control in the Intensive Care Unit)
  • The Role of the Clinical Pharmacist in the Post-operative Care of Patients After Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation
  • Incorporating Common Educational Approaches to Help Pharmacists Improve Therapeutic Outcomes
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Integration of Patient-centered Medical Home – Clinical Pharmacists in the Patient Delivery of Comprehensive Medication Review
  • New Antimicrobials for Gram-positive Infections: A Critical Review

Please see the preliminary Convention brochure online for complete details. Registration is available online or access printable registration forms on the Convention Web site.

In addition, be sure to support Michigan Pharmacy Foundation (MPF) by participating in the Adopt-a-Student program as well as make a minimum $10 donation in exchange for coffee and pastries each morning. Members can also attend the Michigan Pharmacy Political Action Council (PAC) Luncheon, where student pharmacists and legislators will be honored and legislative updates will be shared.

Please note that due to the setup of our new Web site, you must complete separate registrations for MPF and Pharmacy PAC activities at the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition. This will allow MPA to provide you with the correct tax-deductible receipt for MPF activities. In addition, it will allow us to meet important state and federal regulations related to contributions made to Michigan Pharmacy PAC.
