In August, the Western Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists (WMSHP) awarded a scholarship to Sara Ogrin, Pharm.D., a Postgraduate Year 2 Pediatric Pharmacy Resident at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. The $1,000 scholarship covered the cost for Sara to participate in the 2014-2015 Michigan Pharmacy Foundation Leadership Academy, which started in November.
On Oct. 16, WMSHP held its annual Residency Showcase in conjunction with Ferris State University (FSU). The showcase was held at the FSU College of Pharmacy location in Grand Rapids. The showcase started with a panel discussion for prospective residency candidates and was followed by the showcase, with 21 residency programs in attendance.
Additionally, WMSHP held three continuing education programs last fall. On Sept. 11, at Uccello’s Ristorante in Grand Rapids, Julie Belfer, Pharm.D., gave a presentation entitled “Dexmedetomidine: Various Roles and Utilization Strategies.” Then, on Oct. 9, at the Bronson Gilmore Center in Kalamazoo, Jessica Prociv, Pharm.D., presented a program entitled “Pharmacy’s Role in Transitions of Care.” Finally, on Nov. 13, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Sara Feinauer, Pharm.D., BCPS, gave a presentation entitled “Medical Marihuana: Clearing the Air.” WMSHP would like to extend a big thank you to all of our recent speakers. They did a wonderful job!
The Society has been on winter break, but will resume meetings this month. For more information about WMSHP or our upcoming programs, please visit www.WMSHP.net.
