MPA-UP Division Fall Seminar to Offer 11.25 Hours of Live CE

The MPA-Upper Peninsula Division Fall Seminar will offer attendees 11.25 hours of live continuing education credit on a variety of topics. Held Oct. 3-4, 2015, at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, the event was designed for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and student pharmacists. 

On Saturday, following registration and continental breakfast with exhibitors, attendees can enjoy programing on the Upper Peninsula Health Plan and the pharmacy provider, and the pharmacist’s role in penicillin skin testing and advocacy. Lunch will be provided and then afternoon sessions will cover U.S. Food and Drug Administration approvals for 2014-2015 and pain control an opiate use. During the afternoon break, student pharmacist projects will also be on display. 

On Sunday, registration and continental breakfast will begin the day, followed by a pharmacy law update and lessons from the Interdisciplinary Subcommittee of the Michigan Board of Pharmacy. The event will conclude with a session on making sense of alerts and recommendations for high-alert medications.

Technician Connection CE Event to Feature Five Hours of Live Programming and CPR Training

Pharmacy technicians are encouraged to attend a new event designed specifically for their practice on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Diplomat in Flint. Organized by the Michigan Society of Pharmacy Technicians, the Technician Connection Continuing Education event will feature five hours of live programming as well as CPR training or recertification. 

The event will begin with registration and breakfast, followed by programs on patient safety, communication and customer service, and pharmacy law. After lunch, additional programming will be offered on Cardinal Health’s Generation Rx program and career opportunities for pharmacy technicians as well as various responsibilities they hold in their roles. At the conclusion of the event from 3-5 p.m., technicians have the option of completing their CPR training or recertification. Registrants do not need to be registered for the Technician Connection Continuing Education event to take advantage of this; however, pre-registration is encouraged.

MPA Law Program Allows You to Participate in Person or via Webinar

MPA is hosting a law continuing education program, 2015 Pharmacy Regulations: A Review of What’s Happened So Far, with speaker Eric Roath, Pharm.D., MPA director of professional practice, on Sept. 16, 2015, from 6-7:15 p.m. There are two ways to participate: you can attend in person at the MPA Headquarters in Lansing or join the online broadcast via webinar. Both options qualify you for 1.25 hours of live CE credit! Registration for this program is now available online.

Be Prepared for the Upcoming Flu Season with Immunization Training

Be prepared for the 2015-2016 flu season. Register online now to obtain immunization certification on Sept. 29, 2015, at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Flint! The Pharmacy-based Immunization Delivery certificate training program has three components: an online interactive self-study with assessment; a live seminar with online final assessment; and a hands-on assessment of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection technique. A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who successfully complete all program components, including an evaluation.

Continuing Education Symposium Registrations Must be Received by Aug. 12

MPA is accepting registrations for the Continuing Education Symposium online through Aug. 12, 2015. This upcoming event will be held Aug. 18-19 in beautiful Traverse City! In addition to offering 10 hours of live continuing education credit, registrants have the opportunity to participate in a winery tour on Leelanau Peninsula. 

The Continuing Education Symposium will begin Tuesday, Aug. 18 with registration and continental breakfast with exhibitors. CE programs will be offered through the late afternoon, with short breaks and lunch included. After 4:45 p.m., attendees are free to explore the city! Traverse City has a wealth of activities available to visitors, including shopping, beaches, galleries, golf, lighthouses, and award-winning wines and talented local chefs. 

CE programs will continue on Wednesday, Aug. 19 after breakfast, and conclude at 12:15 p.m. The Leelanau Peninsula winery tour will then begin at 12:45 p.m. Discover Leelanau Peninsula, where cool-climate wines pair perfectly with local cuisine. The small peninsula is home to 25 wineries located within diverse microclimates uniquely suited for a variety of wine grapes. Among the internationally acclaimed varietals are Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Experience, firsthand, the authentic taste of the peninsula in local wines that continue to achieve national and international accolades with each passing vintage. Be sure to register for the tour with your Continuing Education Symposium registration! The winery tour is open to Continuing Education Symposium attendees and guests. A minimum of 15 people must register by Aug. 12 and the winery tour is limited to 20 people.
