National Influenza Vaccination Week – Dec. 4-10!

Dec. 4-10, 2016 is National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW)! Use this time to promote the importance of vaccinations as well as educating yourself and patients on the updated recommendations and resources related to vaccine-preventable diseases and their vaccines.

Do you know how Michigan compares to other states for influenza cases this year? Check out  weekly national flu reports at  The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) also works with the CDC Influenza Hospitalization Surveillance Project to provide population-based rates of hospitalization due to severe influenza surveillance for Clinton, Eaton, Genesee and Ingham counties. MDHHS also monitors Michigan data using the MDHHS Influenza Sentinel Hospital Network, which tracks voluntary influenza-related admission rates by hospitals statewide. Pharmacy CE Webinar – The Management of Adverse Events Associated with Vaccinations

The Vaccine Adverse Reporting System, Health Resources & Services Administration, Institute for Safe Medication Practices and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are offering a webinar, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, covering the management of adverse events associated with vaccinations. At the completion of the webinar, participants will be able to identify adverse events that are commonly associated with vaccinations administered to adolescent and adults, discuss strategies on how to properly document and report adverse events related to vaccinations, develop a care plan to avoid and manage adverse events commonly associated with vaccinations and discuss effective strategies for educating patients about adverse events association with vaccinations and techniques to manage them.


The target audience for this webinar is pharmacists, with 1.0 hours of continuing education credit available. In order to receive credit for participating, be sure to register online as well as completing the posttest questions by Jan. 17, 2017.
