Utilize That’s My Pharmacist Campaign Flyers for February and March

In 2015, MPA launched the new and improved That’s My Pharmacist campaign. Materials were redesigned with the overall goal of improving quality and effectiveness. Last year’s campaign focused on these main points:

  • Redesign messages based on theory, considering source credibility
  • Consider audience literacy and health literacy.

Based on member feedback, the That’s My Pharmacist Campaign is now a year-round campaign. Each month will focus on a specific health observance. MPA has provided flyers for pharmacies to print off and display or make available to patients that is specific to the featured health observance for each month. Don’t forget to utilize flyers for the following topics covered in February and March 2016:

FEBRUARY:  American Heart Month

MARCH:  National Kidney Month

Visit to access a flyer for each of the observances above. Print off the flyer and share the key information included with your patients! The details included in these resources will help your patients further understand the importance of utilizing their pharmacist as a vital member of their personal health care team.

January is Cervical Health Month

January is cervical health awareness month and one of the most effective ways to maintain health and prevent disease is through human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. Vaccination prevents cancer caused by many of the strains of the human papillomavirus. The American Cancer Society estimates that 12,900 cases of cervical cancer occurred in the US in 2015 with 350 of them in Michigan. Of those occurrences, there were 4,100 deaths in the US and 120 deaths in Michigan. Unfortunately, HPV vaccination rates in Michigan are low – less than a third (30.5%) of females and less than a fifth (19.3%) of males have completed the recommended 3 dose series.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has created the Michigan HPV Vaccination Snapshot: Pharmacies document to help engage pharmacies in the public health initiative to increase HPV series completion. Pharmacies in Michigan have made tremendous progress with influenza vaccination, and while some pharmacies are providing HPV vaccinations, there is ample room for growth and expansion of services into this area. Insurance coverage of pharmacist-delivered HPV vaccines is also expanding (see FAQ document from Blue Care Network) further increasing our opportunities to impact the health and wellness of our communities.
