According to the Michigan Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance Rules, all healthcare professionals holding a controlled substance license are required to complete a one-time opioid and other controlled substances awareness training that cover the standards listed under R 338.3135.
Target Audience
This activity was designed specifically for prescribers licensed or looking to obtain a controlled substance license in the state of Michigan.
Directions to View Activity and Receive Certification
Prescribers must purchase the article for $99 (click the button below). Within two business days of purchase, the article will be emailed to the purchaser with a link to complete an evaluation. After the evaluation has been completed, the purchaser will receive a certificate of completion the following Tuesday. (Note: Michigan Pharmacists Association only generates certificates every week on Tuesday.)
Learning Objectives
At the end of this training, non-pharmacists will be able to:
1. Explain the appropriate use of opioids and other controlled substances in the medical management of patients and counsel patients accordingly.
2. Discuss integration of common and alternative treatments for pain management.
3. Describe the stigma of addiction and the impact it has on patient care.
4. Explain how to utilize the Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS) when prescribing or dispensing controlled substances.
5. Discuss requirements under state and federal law related to prescribing and dispensing controlled substances.
6. Describe security features and proper disposal requirements for controlled substance prescriptions.
