The Foundation provides scholarships to exceptional up-and-coming pharmacists. Since establishing the program in 2002, the Foundation has awarded more than $110,000 in scholarships to deserving future practitioners.

Each year, a $2,500 scholarship is awarded to one student pharmacist at each of Michigan’s three colleges of pharmacy. In addition, the Larry Wagenknecht Leadership Scholarship is awarded to a student who especially exhibits exceptional leadership capabilities. When funding allows, the Foundation Board of Trustees may award additional scholarships to student pharmacists who exhibit exceptional academic, leadership and professional achievements.

“I was honored and grateful to be awarded one of the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation scholarships this year. By financially supporting Michigan pharmacy students, the MPF not only helps reduce the financial burden of a pharmacy education, but also promotes engagement in pharmacy advocacy and policy early in our careers and creates a culture of generosity that we will pay forward into the future.”

-Kirsten Smith, 2022 Pharm.D. candidate, University of Michigan

“The MPF Scholarship has helped lift a great financial burden off my shoulder. As a Canadian student, it has allowed me to cross the border on days I would not normally have to, so I could work on projects and volunteer without financial repercussions. Receiving a generous scholarship like this makes you see the value of giving back in the future, so other students may continue to have these opportunities. I am honored to have been given this scholarship in recognition of the work we do. Thank you to the MPF and MPA for all you do.”

“Being awarded the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation Student Scholarship is an honor. As a pharmacy student, there is a great deal of academic and financial stress. However, as students it is important that we are active in our field and keep up with regulatory issues. When I applied for this scholarship I really had to think about what I believe are the most important regulatory issues facing pharmacy today and how I can help inform other students as well as the community about these important issues. Since receiving this scholarship, I have been able to be active in the profession and maintain my academic success. I am so thankful that both MPF and MPA have given me the tools to be the best student pharmacist I can be.”
– Allison Bouwma, 2018 Pharm.D. candidate, Ferris State University
