Reporting Liability and Concerns
- Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)
Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is a passive reporting system meant to catch possible safety issues with vaccines as early as possible. Together the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) run this system that analyzes adverse events or side effects after vaccination. Since the system is passive – it relies on individual reports of issues. Anyone can report to VAERS but there are some adverse events that health care professionals are required to report if they become aware of the situation. It is important for pharmacists to be understand these requirements, what should and what must be reported as well as where to go to report an event if appropriate. - Shoulder Injury After Vaccine Administration (SIRVA)
