Health fairs can be a great way for pharmacist to show their value to the public. However, health fairs can be time consuming and burdensome. Because putting together a health fair can be a stressful and intimidating event, the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) Public Affairs Committee, along with Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) has identified the ten essential steps in hosting a successful health fair. Information related to location, implementation and execution are included in this toolkit, as well as a series of “Pro Tips” to ensure you have the insider scoop on how to make your health fair a successful tool for community engagement.

To ensure the health and wellness of our communities, engaging in meaningful interactions is essential to building relationships with the public and improving patient health outcomes. Community engagement is a multi-faceted task involving individuals, special interest groups, partnerships and even coalitions, and as a result, requires thoughtful, pointed communication across various platforms. MPA has provided tools and resources in this kit that will help you interact and educate your community with unique and effective methods.

Speaking to lawmakers is essential to communicating the needs and wants of Michigan pharmacists. Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) understands that organizing and planning these discussions can be a challenging and daunting task. This toolkit includes checklists, timelines and draft messages that our members can use to communicate with these lawmakers. In order to make policy change, pharmacists need to advocate for themselves, their practice and their patients. This toolkit will make any legislative event or discussion easy!

The information contained in this toolkit describes the important collaboration that is required between community pharmacies and public health disaster response teams in the state of Michigan. In order to successfully respond to a declared crisis, the community must be prepared with pre-event planning and relationship building, which is provided by this toolkit. Pharmacies can play an integral role in disaster mitigation, and this resource will provide you with the resources to establish connections between response teams and community pharmacies.

The Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists is in the process of developing a comprehensive toolkit for the Society’s website. This toolkit aims to provide information about starting an ambulatory care pharmacy, best practices in transitions of care and clinical practices as well as business models and provider status resources. In order to provide the most comprehensive information regarding ambulatory care in the state, the society is asking that interested practice sites provide their information to be included in this toolkit. More information can be found here.

The Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) Residency Committee, along with Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA), has compiled a comprehensive list of residency programs throughout the state. Updated on a yearly basis, this toolkit provides the necessary information regarding programs including a ‘Justification Worksheet,’ ‘Developing your Residency Program,’ ‘Recruiting new Residents’ and ‘Expansion Justification Worksheet.’ The committee is focused on the continual development of programs, as well as the expanding of those currently existing in order to create the best learning and growth environment for resident pharmacists.
If you are wanting to get to know your patients better and offer the highest value as a pharmacist, consider holding a Brown Bag Medication Review. This toolkit provides all the information necessary to hold an informal event at your community pharmacy that aims to educate and engage patients. These type of events work to attract positive attention to your pharmacy, find avenues for potential revenue, promote pharmacists as providers and remove unsafe or unused medications from the medicine cabinets and streets.

These resources are designed to help our members better communicate important and useful information to patients and educate them in ways their pharmacist can provide important therapy and medication information. Included are links related to managing conditions, managing the medications associated with conditions, proper adherence to medications as well as necessary information about the usage and doses of medication to avoid adverse events. Use these resources yourself, or point your patients toward this valuable information.
