MPA Executive Board

MPA Executive Board2023-05-01T11:57:25-04:00

The MPA Executive Board consists of officers (Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board, President, President-elect, Treasurer, Speaker of the House of Delegates and Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates) as well as Board members representing MPA practice sections (two consultant pharmacists, two community pharmacists, two health-system pharmacists). In addition, there are two at-large positions, and the Chair of the Student Pharmacist Executive Council sits on the Board. At least one Board member resides in the Upper Peninsula.

The term of office for the Chairman, President and President-elect is one year. The officer positions of Speaker of the House and Vice Speaker of the House are two-year terms. The officer position of Treasurer and Board member positions are three-year terms. The President-elect assumes the office of President the next operational year, and the President assumes the office of Chairman of the Board.

The Executive Board traditionally meets six to seven times per year: on a Monday evening and Tuesday morning in the months of January, April, September and November at the MPA Headquarters in Lansing; during the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition in February; during the Executive Board retreat in May; and via conference call in June.

  • Executive Board Nominations

Members in good standing are encouraged to submit nominations for the MPA Executive Board. Each year, MPA sends out a call for nominations to practice section leadership and members providing details on open positions being elected in the current year. Nominations are due June 1 each year.

If you are interested in nominating someone for the MPA Executive Board, please complete the online nomination form.

Nominations for Speaker of the House and Vice Speaker of the House are accepted in even numbered years. Only delegates may be nominated for the offices of Speaker and Vice Speaker. Any delegate may nominate himself or herself, or another delegate with that delegate’s permission. Each even numbered year, MPA sends out a call for nominations for House office positions. Nomination forms are also made available at the registration desk during the MPA Annual Convention & Exposition and in each delegate’s House Session packet. Nominations are due by noon on the Saturday before the House of Delegates Session during the Annual Convention. A final list of all candidates nominated will be posted near the registration desk by 12:30 p.m. on the Saturday of the Convention. Delegates nominated for the offices of Speaker and Vice Speaker will also be announced during the House Session.

  • Executive Board Elections

The Nominations Committee, appointed by the President, submits a slate of candidates nominated by members in good standing for vacant positions to the House of Delegates for approval. Active pharmacist members of the Association are mailed a ballot with the approved slate of candidates as well as a bulletin with candidate biographies and statements to review prior to voting. These materials are traditionally mailed to pharmacist members in late September, and ballots are due back to the MPA office by the end of October in the ballot envelope provided. President-elect candidates are also featured in the October issue of Michigan Pharmacist journal to provide members with additional information. Results of the election are announced in mid-November. Elected Board members officially take office on Jan. 1 each year.

The election of Speaker and Vice Speaker is conducted during the House Session at the Annual Convention & Exposition during even numbered years. The election of Speaker and Vice Speaker shall be by written ballot. If a candidate for either position is uncontested, the Secretary of the House can call for a motion to bypass the paper ballot for a unanimous voice vote. A majority vote is required for a candidate to be elected. The Speaker and Vice Speaker will be installed prior to the adjournment of the House Session during which they are elected. Please see House Rule III for additional information.
